Create content that works better for everyone
Far too much content is inaccessible.

Lots of us don't know about the simple things we could be doing to make our content work better.

So our message isn’t landing. It’s not reaching the right people.

If you want to increase your reach and improve understanding, then you need to be using language inclusively and accessibly.

If you want to learn about inclusive and accessible language, you need to join Bold Type!

Who should join Bold Type

Anyone who communicates

Whether you're communicating to 5 colleagues, or 50,000 people over social media, Bold Type can support you to become more inclusive and accessible, every time you do.

If you...

Struggle to get your message across,

Lack confidence which means your comms never get sent,

Pause before hitting send in case you get it “wrong”,

Waste time on meetings to debate language choices (because you're not sure how to be inclusive),

Find yourself saying “inclusive language is too complicated” or “it’s always changing, I can’t keep up”,

Lose time to endless meetings, leaving your team frustrated that nothing’s happening

Worry about PR disasters or audience backlash, if you say something that isn’t accessible or inclusive,

Know that your content isn’t reaching the people you need it to,

Worry that accessibility failures are hurting your reach, and holding your organisation back from achieving its goals.

Don't worry, I’ve got you!

Many people think inclusive communications is complicated or difficult.

It really isn’t!

What if you could…

Effortlessly create accessible content, without having to research what will work best for autistic, ADHD, blind, d/Deaf, tired or distracted people,

Feel calm and confident that you're not disabling people with your content,

Increase reach, engagement and impact by creating content that works for millions of disabled and neurodivergent people,

Improve the clarity of internal communications so team members get the message,

Have the biggest impact possible with your work?

When you learn how to communicate more effectively you can achieve more.

You could...

Get time and energy back - no more trying to understand tricky emails or debating how to approach each tricky topic,

Save more lives with your health information content (like my brilliant client, breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!),

Support vulnerable customers better, like Starling Bank.

News flash… you can make your content work better for everyone, so you can focus on impact.

"Bold Type is a truly brilliant course, that covers all the principles of inclusive and accessible comms and helps you put them into practice. It has been thought-provoking, uplifting and very impactful for our organisation. Highly recommend!"

Testimonials

"Since I finished the course, I’ve been much more aware of non-inclusive language and finding alternatives.

For example, rather than saying ‘blind spot’, I use ‘lack of awareness’ or ‘knowledge gap’. I’ve started using text-to-speech to listen to my drafts. This tech helps me catch and fix clunky sentences. And I remind myself to use specific terms instead of generic umbrella terms, or euphemisms, wherever possible. "

Ettie is an exceptional trainer, and frankly a fountain of knowledge when it comes to inclusive language. I feel so lucky to have come across this course as part of my work with Media Trust. I'm just over half way through the course myself, and I already know that I am a better communications professional because of it. Comms friends, sign up for Bold Type's next cohort today!"

Meet your trainer, Ettie

Image description: Ettie is a white person with dark blonde hair. She’s wearing a pale pink shirt, and leaning towards the camera with a kind and welcoming smile.

Hi, I'm Ettie. I help people communicate in ways that work better for everyone.

I’ve spent over 10 years working in communications roles. I've been a charity marketing director, a director of external relations, a social media manager, content strategist, and communications officer.

I've been in the weeds of putting content out.

I know what it's like to be constantly busy, managing 5 social media channels, a website, a newsletter and to ask myself “how on earth do I make sure this works for everyone? I hardly have time to eat lunch.”

I’ve been through the pain of overthinking and worrying about inclusive and accessible communication, so you don’t have to!

I'm going to share with you my 5-step approach to making communication inclusive and accessible.

I've helped thousands of people to become more inclusive and accessible, working with organisations from tiny grassroots ones to big names like Amnesty International, Decathlon, Harrods, Girlguiding, On, CoppaFeel, and many more to help them communicate inclusively and accessibly.

Head to my “Who I’ve worked with page” for more information.

My clients trust me to teach inclusive and accessible communication in a fun, practical way that really works. If communication is part of your job, I can help you to do it in a way that works better for everybody.

I don't teach rules or tell you to follow “say this, don’t say that” guidance. When you join Bold Type, you’re getting the knowledge, support, space and time you need to consistently create content that works better for everyone.

Are you ready to change the way you communicate forever? I’m ready to support you to do just that.

Testimonials

See what previous Bold Types and other lovely folks have to say about working with me.

Anne talks about how she experienced Ettie as a trainer and facilitator on Bold Type

"The training is well organised with a clear schedule of topics, and is supported by additional resources in a learning portal as well as the possibility to catch-up on anything you’ve missed (including recordings of all the sessions)."

Senior Journalist

"This course has been fantastic. Real, practical principles that are immediately applicable. I highly recommend it!!"

Michelle

Senior Journalist

"Some of the stuff that Ettie shared really helped me to support my clients in being more inclusive with the clients they’re working with."

Samantha

Senior Journalist

"I find myself awed by the value of the knowledge that's been shared. I joined the class to learn about accessibility best practices in writing, but I didn't think it would go as far as questioning the literal definition of "disability".

The very language we use, the way how it shapes our world. Even something as simple as asking, "What is the cost of ambiguity in writing?" It's such a basic question, but hearing it phrased so simply, really made me think about my approach to writing and communication as a whole."

What people said about access care

"For me the content is interesting and really well represented, I especially love all the little accommodations that are made without shouting about them. Such as praising every input so that no-one feels RSD [rejection sensitivity] and how Ettie reads out all comments and describes images etc. It's also making me feel more confident in what I already know and deepening my understanding in a lot of areas."

Rebecca Watmore
Client journey and accessibility lead

"I felt like you created a really inclusive space, with so much attention on what works for different people.

I loved being able to keep my camera off and still participate fully. It's such a great course, Ettie Bailey-King and I'd highly recommend for anyone else thinking of taking it."
